Community Resource and Education Centre
The youth are referred to as the future of a nation. However they have
to be nurtured in order to prepare them for the future responsibilities
it has to undertake.
AIESEC volunteers have played a major part in the formation and growth of
the YFC. This has been through organizing youth sports, performances and
community talks to educate youth on behavior change, HIV/AIDS and youth
contribution to the society.
The Matibabu Youth Friendly Centre has a library and a resource center for
the local youths. Thanks to the Matibabu team who sent book donations for
the youth. It helps the youth to air their views and share them for a better
world.
The girl child in Kenya has continued to face problems, despite efforts by the Government to resolve the issue. Unequal distribution of resources between men and women, school drop out rates for girls and traditional Kenyan cultural beliefs continue to make it difficult to ensure that equal opportunities are provided to girls and boys within Kenya.
In an effort to empower the rural women of Nyanza Province to take an active role in developing their community Matibabu Foundation established a Women’s Centre within the local community. Currently women are given the opportunity to learn life skills as well as basic income generating skills, such as tailoring and dressmaking that can help them raise the living standards of their families. The current center is holding a capacity of about 15 women but in future will be extended to host a bigger capacity.
The CVTC targets youths and members of the community that are not able to continue their education due to a lack of financial resources. To prevent rural-urban migration and mushrooming of the city slums, the Centre seeks to teach useful skills, such as tailoring and carpentry, to provide members with a means of making a living in their respectivecommunities.
SEED is an international organization that raises scholarship money to fund young successful Kenyan students with financial constraints to continue their education. The scholarships are supported through fundraising efforts in Canada. Go to the SEED project page for more info...
Kibera slums hosts a record population of close to a million. It has no formal
set-up for refuse disposal of either solids or liquid waste. The situation
is further exacerbated by the constant increase in population that is stretching
limited land beyond its adequate utility status.A large amount of garbage
is dumped around the Makina Market area in Kibera. The market is managed by
the Nairobi City Council but struggles to maintain a clean environment due
to lack of community support. The entire community must “NOW AWAKE”
as waste is already here with us and will stay if not managed.
Community Support Group, in line with its core objectives on environment,
has identified this issue and is highly concerned with implementing appropriate
waste management and manners of disposal. Involving youth and community groups
from the area, CSG hopes to establish a waste management and environmental
clean up of Makina Market. In the long term the organization wishes to generate
an environmental waste management system for the area to encourage visitors
and locals. This will also create a healthy living environment.
Currently CSG is working on generating funds for the purchase of cleaning
materials, wheelbarrows, spades and bins to start making an impact in the
area. In the long term the center will aim to generate its own income through
establishing and offering local clients/businesses in the Makina district
a waste disposal and pick up service. We need your help today to help save

The Matibabu Health Clinic focuses on providing quality medical health are at a subsidized cost to local residents. This was started in December 2006 by a group of Canadian Media youth. It is an informative group made to help and bring together the youth of Kibera, with goals to empower them with their own talents, giving them the ability to educate the community on topics such as HIV/AIDS, drug abuse, rape, child labour, and other prevalent issues. The project’s name means “together”, because it is a combination of about eight different groups. The members educate the community through theatre performances like drama, songs, narrations, poetry, rapping, and puppets, reaching approximately 200 people.
Our CSGs office in Kibera offers various resources including computer training, and a library equipped with educational materials. Currently CSG members are benefiting from computer literacy classes organized by the volunteers.
